è solo un arrivederci
Monday will be Stefano Pilati's last show at YSL. huge bummer IMO. A man who had to follow not only Saint Laurent himself, but Tom Ford. He's had replacement rumors since the very beginning, but he still created beautiful collections for YSL without all the bullshit or hype of some other houses. Underrated, for sure. Now his departure is even overshadowed by Raf leaving Jil Sander. and then to be replaced by Hedi Slimane? who knows man.
so whats next? Dior? Please?
"When people enter our store they imagine cashmeres, silk cravats, shirts in crepe de chine, crocodile shoes. Obviously, we make them, but it’s like hitting myself in the balls. I have 800 cashmere coats and 900 silk cravats. My point is, your work can’t just be a selfish journey. You’re working for a brand, not your brand. You have to adapt. I like to let myself go with some ideas, but you have to have the rest of the company on board with you and deal with those dickheads who are only businessmen—the ones who ruined fashion, people who move from Danone to YSL like it’s the most natural transition in the world. "
"Let’s not forget that we aren’t pure creators with rich boyfriends who fund our work and take our hands to lead us along while we do whatever we want. We work for corporations, with hundreds of people who go home at 2 AM on the subway, not with drivers. There are whole factories full of people who create our stuff, and in a way there is a public media system that puts us at the center of it all, a system for which we are the face of an entire corporation. You have to come to terms with your responsibility and choices."

back to blog
i accidentally went a month without blogging. sorry bloggy.
now it's september which means theres only 8 days til fashion month and it's about to become fall which means getting dressed is going to be a hell of a lot easier. i admire Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen because they dress like its fall all year round. here are a few of my favorite layered, big sunglasses, carrying everything you own looks from the pair.

COUTURE REPORT
I am not a huge fan of couture. With only around ten designers and houses showing, there isnt a whole lot to get excited for. This season managed to be same old shit despite a few interesting things like the first Dior Couture show without Galliano, Giambattista Valli's first couture show ever, and Alaia's first show since 2003. If you have an ear in fashion you know Dior put on a pretty horrible show. The styling looked like some Henry Holland or Jeremy Scott shit and the clothes weren't enough to distract from it. Alexis Mabille, who i don't pay much attention to but am often fond of, put out an even worse collection in my opinion. so what else?
Giamattista Valli: was nice (top photo via vogue)
Valentino: there was probably something nice here but i've forgotten
Chanel: goofy but boring
Elie Saab: red carpet dresses blah blah blah
Armani: bleh
Jean Paul Gautier: I've never been a fan
and then there were a slew of collections that left me asking why bother?
Givenchy:
A beautiful collection that i recommend viewing as close as possible. i am particularly fond of the back of the dresses as you can see. with all the talk of the over-the-top pace of fashion, it is nice to see Riccardo sticking close to what he's done the last two couture collections. which leads nicely into my finale,
Alaïa:
ah, fashion has certainly changed a lot since my glory days.

the men's collections are debuting in paris all this week. though i don't really follow them, save for a few favorites like Prada, Dries, and Givenchy, i was gonna do a post about dude style. howevah i realized i have to think more about what it really means to be a stylish dude.
until i get that all figured out i will post these images of who i consider one of the most stylish dudes, Stefano Pilati:
